Fort Santiago

Going to intramuros is unplanned... We're on a job hunt that day so since the agency is located in intramuros, we hit two birds with one stone.

The Famous Landmark of Fort Santiago

Intramuros was build during the 16th century by the Spaniard as we became a colony by them…Intramuros was literally means “within the walls” a city/fortress surrounded by high, thick bricks, walls and moats. Situated at the southern part of Pasig River closed to the entrance river near the Manila Bay. It was the fortress for Spanish elite and mestizos. Locals and Chinese are prohibited to live and enter the city…
Pasig river

There were Churches, Schools, Military Barracks, and Governor’s Place…The garrison / prison was now known as FORT SANTIAGO…
Manila Cathedral Church
San sebastian Church
FORT SANTIAGO was once ruled by Rajah Sulayman prior to Spanish occupation and ruler. But when he was defeated, the settlement was made into a  fort… Spaniards Rebuild it with stones (from woods) making it housed the militaries and Spanish officials. Dungeons and prisons where tortures was a normal thing. It also held  the most famous prisoner of the Philippines and a hero JOSE RIZAL.

My favorite Brick/wall

During the World War II was the time  when the city was severely damage. But today it was restored and preserved. Making it into a tourist spot where visitors  will see how Manila looks like during the Spanish era…
i like this one, i think it's new from the Bamboo garden
The train and rails was now remmoved. Canyon nlng :)

Rizal Shrine was developed and Rizal monument was build inside the Fort.
Way back my elementary days, during a field trip we can enter into the dungeon . It was located near the pasig river and said to be filled with river water where prisoners almost or drown during high tide. But the day we visited it (in celebration with Rizal’s  Centennial years) the dungeon was closed…I’m not sure if it was permanently closed.

Going there is really easy,

- you can take a TAXI no worries cuz almost all drivers know the place.

- Or by a Bus : (we’re from Cavite so we take  a bus bound to Lawton and get off  at the CITY HALL of Manila (near SM MANILA) from there  a few walks will do just use the under pass to cross the street and you’ll see the Gate of intramuros…
You can stroll along the city by walking and pass by the Famous Church of  San Sebatian and Manila Cathedral… Enjoy the old city once you see the Manila Cathedral church, just cross the street and you’ll find FORT SANTIAGO (fee is 70 pesos as of june 2011) If your not good in walking you can ride a pedicab or Calesa going to Fort Santiago just beware  that drivers will not over charge you…

- by LRT just get off the UNITED NATIONS station a few walks from there  to get to the Intramuros Gate…(same instruction as  the BUS)

Manila Ocean Park

So much to go and so much see to when you are in Manila… Manila Ocean Park is one of the most visited park located at the back of Luneta/Quirino Grand Stand…It is the first world-class oceanarium owned by China Oceanis Philippines Inc., a subsidiary of China Oceanis Inc., a Singaporean-registered firm that has operated four oceanariums in China. Perfect location for educational field trips and family get to gether made for young children and also fun for any age…

Be sure that you know the rules and regulations as you enter the oceanerium… It must be observe for the sake of  the species inside. They may be hurt / distubed by the flashing cameras so be sure to turn it off. No tapping on the aquarium, let’s be kind to them.

Moving on, the first section you are going to enter is called AGOS(flow). This a combination of a jungle like and waterfalls. A portion of it is covered by long roots which serves as a roof. The area features the fresh water fishes in a rainforest, varieties of star fishes and koi fishes. you can feed them by holding a feeding bottle,I enjoyed it as they rush and suck the bottle with I guess it’s milk LOL!

The next section is called the OCEANARIUM showcases the large marine biodiversity in multiple tank and aquariums. I love the varieties of colors too! Stripes and dotted fishes, corals and crustaceans…I whisper to my self how creative the Lord is.

im not sure what is this but i think its pretty
Life cycle of a bamboo shark

Hi, how are you?
It's a fish not a rock
The most enjoyed part of it is the TUNNEL known as BUHAY NA KARAGATAN (THE LIVING OCEAN) You’ll see ofcourse deep sea creatures swimming over you…I feel like I belong! But at the back of my head is the fear of  what if theres an earthquake and the aquarium destroyed? There are sharks and sting rays, oh well forget about it, LOL! By the way we saw an employee in a cge feeding the sharks with squids, man diving fast down with the shark(shark attack) and reef walking in a astronautlike suit… I guess theres a different charge for activities like it. Your kids can also enjoy and learn from their science exhibit.

We love the world so let's protect her..
So many ways to conserve water as well as wasting it... Save than waste!
Let’s go up to the Second Floor… Tired feet? Why not dip in their FISH SPA called "Doctor Fishes"? Or watch the manila bay and chill for a while, or visit their souvinier shop for your friends and love ones, or dine in their wide variations of food and resto overlooking the Manila Bay… Solve now?

Let’s visit another part of the park…Kids will surely enjoy this amazing 3d theather trick art and mirror maze which creates beautiful and amazing pictures or the Jellies: Dancing sea faries , jelly fish their millions of spicies changing colors and capsules…

Now we know
Life cycle of a Jelly fish
jellies in capsule, it canges its color beautifully makes them look like their dancing
If you think it’s over then don’t . The best part I love the most was watching the sealion show, perfect!!! I love how they do the dancing and their cute tricks, but in a way I pity those animals, I can see how tired they are but kept performing to entertain their guest…After that you can visit their habitat on the other side. This charge 100 pesos separate from the entrance fee…

The Habitat

Sea lion performing
My friend and I avail the 500 peso promo which includes Jellies: Dancing sea fairies, Sea Lion Show and Habitat… Each has different charge when you avail only the entrance fee of 400 pesos.

What I like in Manila Ocean Park:
-       learning and fun
-       entertaining

What I don’t like about it:
-       I can’t think how stressful it is for speceies on how many times they were touched by people
-       It is not their natural habitat
-       Animals get tired too, I can see how the sea lion was tired and almost doesn’t want to move.
